Burj Khalifa was earlier named Burj Dubai but incidentally its
completion coincided with the worldwide economic slump and thus there
were few takers. Burj Khalifa was renamed after UAE President Khalifa
bin Zayed Al Nahyan, which was seen as an attempt to boost confidence in
Dubai and showing who is backing Dubai.
